June 16, 1997:
Arlington Town Meeting unanimously passes Article 101, funding improvements for the traffic light in Arlington Center.

April 6, 2001:
Red right turn arrows appear at the corner of Massachusetts Avenue, Pleasant Street, and Mystic Street.

This page celebrates Arlington's Representative Town Meeting, which made the signal improvements possible.

To protect pedestrians, the signal in Arlington Center was set up with a separate right turn phase.
The signal on the pole (right) was installed on April 6, 2001.
Without the new signal, there was no red light to alert drivers that a right turn was prohibited without the green arrow.

With the new red right turn arrows, there is no confusion about when a right turn is permitted.

Page created August 23, 2001.
